Incumbent Committee Members Set to Take Oaths Sunday

Reorganization meeting begins at 11 a.m.

Township Committee incumbents Gerard Scharfenberger—who currently serves as mayor—and Kevin Settembrino will be sworn in for new three-year terms on Sunday, Jan. 5.

Middletown's annual reorganization meeting begins at 11 a.m. in town hall, and will also feature the swearing in of the committee’s mayor and deputy mayor, according to the township.

Committee members rotate those positions on a yearly basis—Scharfenberger and Stephanie Murray were selected for mayor and deputy mayor, respectively, by the governing body for 2013.

Scharfenberger, who has served since 2005, and Settembrino, a member since 2010, defeated Democratic challengers Pat Olsen and Linda Baum in the November election. Their victories mean that Middletown's Township Committee remains under full Republican control.

Resident volunteers also are expected to be sworn in to various township boards, committees and commissions during the meeting, according to the township.
