Middletown Celebrates New Auxiliary Cops

Graduates honored with proclamations at recent township committee meeting

The Middletown Township Committee welcomed the newest members of the Middletown Township Police Auxiliary to the ranks at the July meeting. They are are: Philip Paone, John Mania, Matthew Rabinowitz, Kaitlyn Robertson, John Svenda, Catherine Simplot, Gregory Tiven, and Kevin Toomey.

The Auxiliary Officers are . The course consisted of 167 hours of instruction in various areas, such as: traffic direction and control, crowd control, preservation of evidence, police investigation, ethics, and first aid. The officers will also undergo local training in the Middletown Police Auxiliary Field Training Program.

"On behalf of all the residents of Middletown, we appreciate the effort and hard work you put in to help us. We couldn’t do what we do without great volunteers such as you," said Mayor Tony Fiore. He noted the Police Auxiliary Unit donated more than 8,000 hours to assist the community in 2010.

The Middletown Auxiliary Police is a 100 percent volunteer organization that falls under the direction of the Middletown Office of Emergency Management. 

An Auxiliary Police Officer performs general law enforcement functions, which includes street patrol, conducting preliminary police investigations, report writing, traffic control, issuance of citations, and other basic law enforcement functions.

The officers serve at special events, such as parades, street fairs, and security for community events and during weather and other emergencies.

 

Auxiliary Officer Biographies

Philip Paone

Paone is a resident of the Belford section of Middletownand and is employed at Domino’s Pizza, Keansburg.

He is currently serving as a volunteer fireman (Port Monmouth) and has NAED Certification, Red Cross AED & CPR, Firefighter #1. He completed the Monmouth County Vocational Law Enforcement Program.

John Mania

Mania is a resident of the Fairview section of Middletown and is employed by the township's Parks and Recreation Department.

He is currently serving as a volunteer fireman and has NAED Certification, Red Cross AED & CPR, ICS 100, 200 and NIMS 700 certified. Mania is also currently attending Brookdale Community College, Lincroft.

Matthew Rabinowitz

Rabinowitz is a resident of the Lincroft section of Middletown and is employed at Pizza Maker/MJ’s Pizza Bar and Grill. He is currently attending Brookdale Community College

Kaitlyn Robertson

Robertson is a resident of Middletown. She is a full time student at Fairleigh Dickinson College and is a Criminal Justice major.

 

John Svenda

Svenda is a resident of Middletown and is employed as a manager in sales at ARMtech, Newark. Mr. Svenda’s hobby is comedy. He has been CPR certified in the past and has memberships in American Legion Jersey Boys State, Middletown Elks lodge #2179 and Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure.

Svenda graduated from The Middlesex County Auxiliary Police Academy with the high academics award.

Catherine Simplot

Simplot is a resident of Holmdel and is permitted to volunteer as an Auxiliary Police Officer because her township does not have an Auxiliary Police program. She is employed by TGIF, Hazlet and has been certified in EMT-B program through Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch

Gregory Tiven

Tiven is a resident of Middletown and is a wrecker/truck driver for the Monmouth County. He is a volunteer firefighter with East Keansburg and Belford Independent fire departments.

Kevin Toomey

Tooney is a resident of Middletown. He is currently employed with GEM Ambulance Company and is a volunteer First Aid member of Middletown First Aid, a member of the Middletown Field Communications Unit and a former chief of the Police Explorers. He is EMT-B, CPR Certified, ICS 100, 200, 300 and 700 CEVO, BTC and EMD trained.
