Sunday: Middletown Township Government Reorganization Meeting, and More

A new year brings newly-elected members to local governing bodies, and new appointees to committees.

Local government bodies will hold reorganization meetings this month to greet new members, elect the mayor, name committees, appoint citizens to the commitees and commissions, and hire consultants for the new year.

Middletown Township Committee Reorganization at Town Hall, noon.

On the agenda will be the swearing in of the 2013 Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Under the township’s form of government, the Township Committee designates two members to serve as mayor and deputy mayor for a one-year term. Committeeman Stephen G. Massell will accept the oath of office to serve his second consecutive term. The term for each Committee members is three years.

Two police officers will also accept their oaths of office during Organization Day. Both officers are being promoted.

Scores of volunteers traditionally attend to accept oaths of office to serve on more than a dozen township boards, committees and commissions. Each group focuses on different aspects of the community and works to enhance Middletown’s quality of life. Residents are appointed to these positions by the Township Committee.
