Middletown Library Director Susan O'Neal Resigns

The Board of Trustees will begin a search for a replacement.

Library Director Susan O'Neal resigned as director of the Middletown Township Public Library.

O'Neal was embroiled in a controversy related to emails she exchanged on township library budget matters with Linda Baum, a Democratic Party candidate for Township Committee and critic of the governing body.

In February, the Library Board closed all three of its satellite branches, citing a festering budget shortfall that is expected to be exacerbated by a projected downturn of assessed taxable property values in the township.

Board President Brock Siebert said until a new director is in place, operations will be overseen by the township administrator, and the Board of Trustees will be involved in policy and financial decision making.

"We will be starting a search in the very near future for a director," said Siebert.
