New Deputy Mayor To Focus On Volunteer Corps, Middletown 350

Committeewoman Stephanie Murray will also keep her eye out for wasteful spending, she said.

Committeewoman Stephanie Murray is Middletown Township's new Deputy Mayor.

In her speech at the well-attended annual reorganization meeting in Town Hall on Sunday, Murray praised Mayor Gerard Scharfenberger and her three colleagues on the all-Republican Township Committee, and pledged to keep fiscal responsibility in mind.

"As always, in the forefront of my mind is how each and every dollar is a dollar out of our pocket," she said in her speech.

Deputy Mayor Murray said she is also looking forward to working with the newly formed Volunteer Corps to help residents in the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, and to help "make new history" with the township's special 350th anniversary this year. "I look forward to celebrating our mutual heritage and community and highlighting the bold strength that is the hallmark of Middletown," she said.

Murray joined the Township Committee in a year ago, but has been active on various boards and committees in towns for several years, according to her bio on the township website. She is the founder of the non-partisan community group Middletown Mornings, which sponsored a forum in October to introduce Board of Education candidates to the community. She is the mother of three small children and owner of a small press.

In addition to her family, she personally thanked Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno for coming to Middletown Township's reorganization. "It means a lot to me to be sworn in by a woman that I admire and respect, as I do you."
