'Obamacare' Impacts Middletown Part-time Workers

In May, the township scaled back employee house in advance of insurance obligations and penalties that will come with the Affordable Care Act, the Asbury Park Press reports.

With changes to federal health care law coming in 2015, Middletown has gone on the defensive and already adjusted the hours of 25 part-time municipal workers to avoid providing them insurance under the law, the Asbury Park Press reports today.

Under the Affordable Care Act, also known as "Obamacare," employers are required to provide healthcare to employees who work more than 30 hours a week.

Holmdel Township is also performing a workforce review, the township administrator told the newspaper.

Taxpayers, what do you think? And are you a part-time worker who may be affected by changes to federal health care mandates? Tell us in the comments.
