Middletown PD Chief Expected to Soon Retire, Exit With Large Payout

Police Chief Oches joined the department in 1974, and rose to the chief's office in 2005.

Middletown Police Chief Robert Oches is likely going to announce his retirement after 40 years of service in the police department, and is eligible to exit with an unused sick/vacation time payout that could exceed $240,000, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

The Township Committee is expected to act on a resolution regarding his retirement at the August 1 meeting, according to APP.com.

At the January reorganization meeting, Oches told Patch that between 7-12 officers were expected to retire in 2014. The department—Monmouth County's largest—has an authorized force of 104 officers.
