Town Committee Votes to Oppose ‘Common Tax’

At the Township Committee Meeting all committee members voted to oppose the Common Tax that would tax New Jersey residents that work in New York City.

The Middletown Township Committee is trying their best to keep more money in the pockets of local commuters by opposing New York City’s proposed "Common Tax".

At the Monday, May 21 , Mayor Anthony Fiore and committee members unanimously passed a resolution that would oppose the proposed “Common Tax” on New Jersey Residents who work in New York City.

“The resolution we adopted this evening is a joint resolution that follows the Monmouth County Freeholders Board opposing a commuter tax for those that work in New York City,” explained Fiore. “I for one oppose that, and would oppose any tax increase in this economic climate to people who are trying to work for a living and are already spending money on commuting, tolls and things of that nature. To see New York City try to come back and impose an additional tax is just ridiculous.”
