Squanto, Please Pass the Turkey; Students Re-enact the First Thanksgiving

MIDDLETOWN - Second graders at River Plaza Elementary celebrated Thanksgiving with a performance of the school's original play "A River Plaza Thanksgiving", a tradition that dates back more than 25 years.

"It is a lovely story about how the Native Americans and Pilgrims worked together during their first successful harvest in Plymouth and forged friendships for the good of both communities at the time," according to School Principal, Kim Pickus.

River Plaza parent and professional actor, Amanda Butterbaugh Mulheren, volunteered to direct this year's show, which took place on November 26 and 27. When asked how the young cast handled themselves on stage, Mulheren answered "With strong and clear voices, the second grade students gave a fantastic performance for family, classmates and faculty. I couldn't be more proud of them."

The childrens' singing was a highlight throughout the play. "Students really enjoy performing several of the songs such as "Tom Tom" and "Pumpkin Pie," stated Pickus.
