Brookdale to Showcase 4-Year Degrees

When Long Branch resident Megan Beckmann wanted to beef up her credentials in early childhood education, she knew Georgian Court University could provide her with the right classes.

But instead of studying at the Lakewood university, she turned to and its NJ Coastal Communiversity, which has an alliance with six state universities. 

By taking classes at Brookdale's Wall Higher Education Center, Beckmann was able to save tuition and take evening classes while maintaining her day job working with special needs children.

"I liked the resources through Brookdale, and Georgian Court went above and beyond for their students there. I felt a part of the University,” Beckmann said.

Three years later, Beckmann, who is now a kindergarten teacher of children with autism, is working on her masters degree through the Communiversity.

This week Brookdale will host a workshop for prospective students who, like Beckmann, want to earn their bachelor's or master's degree locally through the NJ Coastal Communiversity.

The first of a series of workshops on the Communiversity will be held Feb. 2 at  on Newman Springs Road, in the Lincroft section of , at 11 a.m. in the Student Life Center. Visitors should park in lots six or seven.

Prospective students will learn the essential elements of completing their degree program. Communiversity partners include: Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey City University (NJCU), Georgian Court University and Montclair State University.

Admissions representatives from the universities will be present to answer any specific questions. Also Brookdale/Communiversity Dual Admissions representatives will be present to answer questions regarding Dual Admissions with Georgian Court and NJCU and the Communiversity.

NJCU also offers a nursing program through the Brookdale. There will be an open house for this degree program at Brookdale's Wall Campus on Feb. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
