CBA Colts Finish Season Undefeated

Scott Thomsen's overtime goal brings home state soccer championship for the school.

The Christian Brothers Academy soccer team defeated Delbarton 1-0 in overtime to win its fourth Non-Public “A” State Title and first since 2002. With the win, the Colts finished the season with a perfect 21-0 record.

THE GAME — IN SHORT

The Colts played a ball control game in the first half dominating possession time but had few good scoring chances as the Delbarton defense was able to keep CBA on the outside.

The second half started much more wide open with both teams’ offenses able to move the ball up the field. Delbarton had its best chance early in the second half as forward Mike Moshier was able to get past the Colts' defense down the right side and come in alone on keeper Steve Donato. Moshier’s shot just missed the left post as it went harmlessly wide of the net.

As the second half wore on, CBA was able to regain its possession dominance but was unable to break through. Michael Romano had a good chance midway though the half as he just missed a header opportunity in front of the Delbarton goal at the left post. But the centering pass was just a little too high and it sailed just above his leaping try.

The Colts ended it quickly in overtime. Zachery Hicks fed Scott Thomsen, who was near the left post, with a perfect pass. All Thomsen needed to do was get a foot on it to send it to the back of the net.

“I saw Scotty with his hand up in the air over by the far post and I was able to slip the pass through and he finished it,” said Ryder-bound senior Hicks.

COLT PLAYER OF THE GAME

Scott Thomsen

The University of Virginia-bound senior scored the game's only goal in overtime.

"Coming back from his injury, he hadn’t played in a while and we rested him a little today, too; but he’s worked really hard to come back and big-time players come up with big time plays in big situations,” said head coach Dan Keane about Thomsen.
