Clifton is the third CBA alumnus to be drafted in the NHL since 2007. Joakim Ryan, a 2011 CBA graduate, was picked in the seventh round by the San Jose Sharks in the 2012 NHL Draft. James van Riemsdyk was drafted second overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
