ROUNDUP: Middletown South Wins; North, Mater Dei Lose

A look at Friday night’s high school football games, compiled from reports on APP.com, nj.com and allshoremedia.net:

Manalapan 35, Middletown North 6: Cody Thompson ran for a 10-yard touchdown but that was all the points the Lions (0-2) could muster against the visiting Braves.

Saeed Blacknall scored four touchdowns for Manalapan.

Middletown South 35, Howell 7: Jake Ripnick rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Eli Smith rushed for a touchdown and returned an interception 55 yards for another as the host Eagles (2-0) beat the Rebels (0-3).

Taylor Hendrickson caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Brey, who passed for 112 yards for Middletown South.

Jarvis Leaks caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Trimble for Howell.

Dunellen 32, Mater Dei 6: Christian Palmer scored on a 7-yard run midway through the fourth quarter, but the Seraphs (0-3) fell to the host Destroyers (2-1).

Rumson-Fair Haven 27, Holmdel 6: Danny Roberto threw two touchdowns to John Ryan and a third to Henry Rosenberg, and the Bulldogs (3-0) cruised past the visiting Hornets (1-2).

Jeff Harris caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Robbie Cantelli for Holmdel.

Red Bank Catholic 45, St. John Vianney 14: James Taylor returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, Chris Whitlock returned an interception 84 yards for another score and the host Caseys (3-0) beat the Lancers (1-2) in Little Silver.

Six different players – including Taylor and Whitlock – scored touchdowns for RBC, which got on the board on Frank Olmo’s 8-yard run. Quarterback Pat Toomey kicked a 38-yard field goal and threw for a touchdown.

Quarterback Billy DeMato passed 236 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score for Vianney.

Toms River North 17, Southern 14: Chris Gulla kicked a 45-yard field goal with 2 and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter as Toms River North rallied from a 7-0 deficit to beat host Southern Regional in Manahawkin.

Joey Fields ran a punt back 37 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to tie the game at 7-7 and Carmine Sclafani threw an 8-yard touchdown to Kyle Carrington to give the Mariners (2-1) the lead, 14-7.

Southern (2-1) scored on a 1-yard run by Rob Yaiser, who kicked the point-after for the 7-0 lead, and Abe Gonzalez scored from 4 yards out in the fourth quarter for the Rams.

Monsignor Donovan 24, Barnegat 21: Grant Klimek rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown and kicked a 30-yard field goal that lifted the Griffins (2-1) past the host Bengals. Quarterback Vinny Grasso rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns for Donovan.

Ricky Gerena passed for three touchdowns – to Ryan Ulrich for 25 yards, to Pat Moran for 5 yards and Matt Knierim for 23 yards.

Lacey 42, Toms River East 14: Kyle Spatz rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Tom Kelly rushed for another as the visiting Lions (3-0) pulled away in the second half to beat the Raiders.

Quarterback Jerry Caporeale ran for a 29-yard touchdown and Jeff Wood rushed for a 15-yard score for Toms River East.

Point Beach 44, Spotswood 16: Danny Tighe rushed for two touchdowns and returned a punt for another score, and Andre Cochrane and Kyle Samaritano also scored as the host Garnet Gulls (3-0) beat Spotswood.

Jake Fioretti passed for a touchdown and Zack Yates kicked a 22-yard field goal for Point Beach.

Point Boro 20, Central 14: Linebacker Kurt VanBenschoten stripped the ball from a Golden Eagles receiver and ran it back 70 yards for a touchdown that put the visiting Panthers (3-0) ahead for good in Bayville.

Chris Oliphant scored a rushing touchdown and Kevin Kelly scored a defensive touchdown when teammate Nick Dzuna force a fumble that Kelly recovered and ran back for the score.

Javon Hardy scored a 5-yard touchdown that drew Central (1-2) to within a touchdown.

Jackson Liberty 28, Manchester 12:  The visiting Lions scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second half as Jackson Liberty (3-0) beat Manchester (1-2).

Devante Shepherd ran for a 61-yard touchdown and Mason Jones caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Devin Tomei for the Hawks.

Brick Memorial 34, Jackson Memorial 7:  Ryan Cieplinski and Mike Basile connected for three touchdown pass plays, including one that covered 77 yards, and Basile rushed for a fourth score as the Mustangs (3-0) overwhelmed the host Jaguars.

Basile finished with three catches for 118 yards. Joe Hans added a 1-yard touchdown for Brick Memorial.
