Silver Lining: Eagles, Lions Send Players to All-Star Game

Both Middletown high schools have players honored in Shore Conference

Throughout the up-and-down ice hockey season for both Middletown High School North and South, there have been surprises.

North's Lions somehow lost their way out of Handchen Cup contention, but rebounded for an impressive state playoff run.

After the Eagles season was virtually dismembered, Middletown South made a Cinderalla-esque run before falling in the Public 'B' final to Chatham.

All in all, it was a very successful ice hockey season in Middletown. Now, the players who helped put together those seasons are being honored in an all-star game among Shore Conference seniors.

For the Lions, forwards Dave Hague and Anthony Deciccio were named to the team after an impressive season leading Middletown North.

The Lions finished with a record of 10-12-2, and fell to top-seeded Randolph in the second round of the Public 'A' state playoffs. They entered the tournament as an 'at-large' bid, seeded 17th.

The Eagles will be sending senior forward Jason Zimmel to the all-star game, along with standout goalie Chris Marsillo. Marsillo lead the post-season way for the Eagles, leading Middletown South to the Public 'B' finals, where they fell to the second-seed, Chatham at the Prudential Center in Newark.

The Eagles finished the season with a record of 15-8-3.
