End of Summer Picnic

 Celebrate the end of summer with a family picnic on Sunday, August 26 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Huber Woods Park, Middletown. Sandy Hook Weekend

The National Park Service turns 96 years on Saturday, August 25 and national parks across the country will host special programs to celebrate. Parking fees will be waived at Gateway National Recreation Area for the day.

Hike trails and identify edible plants, Sandy Hook, N.J. (parking lot M), 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the cost is $5 per person. Bring binoculars, sunscreen, water and comfortable shoes. Call 732-291-0055 for more information.

5k Race Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education

The Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education (Chhange) at Brookdale Community College will hold a 5K Challenge for Chhange Run/Walk at the Lincroft main campus of Brookdale Community College.

The run/walk will take place on Sunday, August 26 with race registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented at 9:45 a.m. The cost to register is $25, which will benefit the center.

Keansburg Fire Co #1 100th Anniversary Celebration

Keansburg Fire Company #1 is celebrating their 100th Anniversary with a fire truck parade at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, followed by a chili contest, and car and motorcycle show. Murray Barn Open House

Walk through the barn that Joseph Murray built Sunday, August 26, 2012 beginning at 3:00 pm. View the barn's original 18th-century timbers and other unusual colonial artifact replicas including the unusual root cellar. An experienced interpreter share the history of the barn. The tour is appropriate for all ages. Children must be supervised by their adult. Meet at the Murray Barn. Donations welcomed and appreciated. These support ongoing programs at Poricy Park Conservancy.
