Dog Named Bear Finds Home

Many animals are still in need of homes and can be adopted through the SPCA and Humane Society.

Bear, an 11-year-old German shepherd who has been without a home since his owner passed away and was featured in a , has found a new family.

Gertrude Poole, known to her friends as Trudie, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after a lengthy battle with heart disease at the end of September.

At the end, Poole said she only wanted to leave her hospital bed to make sure Bear knew she hadn’t abandoned him. Without any immediate family or friends available to take Bear in, there was concern about the fate of the dog following his owner's death. Poole's friend, Angelina — Angelina declined to provide her last name — reached out to Patch to help find the senior dog, staying at a Red Bank-area veterinary hospital, a new home.

Thankfully, an anonymous family has taken Bear in, Angelina told Patch. Still, there are plenty of dogs and cats that still need homes in Monmouth County. Two local shelters, the Monmouth County SPCA and the Associated Humane Society, Tinton Falls, are both advertising available pets for adoption.
