Perking Up Poricy Park Facilities

Volunteers from K. Hovnanian to help revamp park amenities on Monday

News from K. Hovnanian and Middletown Township ...

At 9 am on Monday, Oct. 17, more than 60 volunteers from the IT department at K. Hovnanian Companies, LLC will descend onto Poricy Park, Middletown, to work on a number of projects aimed at improving the park’s facilities.

Poricy Park attracts thousands of elementary-aged students each year, as they learn about the local environment and unique history of the area. The park features prehistoric fossil beds, a historic farmhouse (that was the site of a skirmish during the Revolutionary War), a nature center and other educational facilities.

Nicholas Colisto, VP/CIO of K. Hovnanian, who is no stranger to community service, selected Poricy Park for his department’s community service event this year.

"Associates should give back to the community, help preserve the environment, and have fun while doing so," Colisto said. "Poricy Park is a great place to have this year’s community service event and I am excited that the work we do will help so many of our local residents and neighbors."

The projects that K. Hovnanian will be working on include:

  • Improving the ADA Compliant Trail and Sensory Garden
  • Conservation efforts surrounding the outdoor nature classroom and historic farmhouse
  • Trail maintenance and cleanup within major routes of the 250 acre nature preserve
  • Restoration efforts of the Historic 1770 Murray Barn

“It is great to see such a large number of volunteers helping the local community,” said Middletown Mayor Anthony P. Fiore. “The volunteer work from Hovnanian will be enjoyed by much of Middletown and the surrounding area.”

Joyce Ferejohn, Executive Director of the Poricy Park Conservancy, “welcomes the additional help” as on-going preservation efforts are endless. “Hovnanian will be adding the finishing touches to our ADA compliant trail and surrounding sensory gardens as well as assisting with much needed clean-up of hurricane damage on our trails in preparation of our annual Trail Run Fundraiser event to be held in December.”

Associates from K. Hovnanian will start work at 9 a.m..
