Veterans Day Parade Marches This Weekend

Parade begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10

Military and community members will join Middletown officials for a commemorative Veterans Day parade this weekend.

This year, the 54th annual parade honors “The Forgotten Heroes,” veterans of the Korean War, as 2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the armistice ending the conflict.

It will begin at Bayview School in Belford and traveling to the entrance of VFW Post 2179, will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, according to the township.

The 54th annual parade is sponsored by VFW Post 2179, its Ladies and Men’s Auxiliaries, and  Middletown’s mayor and Township Committee.

“All fraternal, veterans and civic organizations, as well as schools and scout troops are invited to participate,” reads a township statement.

Those interested in marching are asked to assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the Bayview School, 300 Leonardville Rd. in Belford.

Participants will proceed through Campbell’s Junction, turning right at Cherry Tree Farm Road, right at Wilson Avenue and right at Garrett Place ending at the rear entrance to VFW Post 2179.

The commemoration continues on Monday, Nov. 11, when a monument honoring Korean War veterans is unveiled and dedicated at VFW Post 2179 at 11 a.m., following the War Monument Ritual Services, according to the organization.
