Belford Engine Co.
732-787-8561 Emergencies: 911
Belford Engine Fire Company (nicknamed The Workin' Company) is located on Main Street, between Railroad and Myrtle avenues. It is also known as Station 3 of the eleven volunteer fire companies in the Middletown Township Fire Department. Middletown is said to have the largest all-volunteer fire department in the world.
Belford Engine Fire Company got its roots in 1916 as a bucket brigade that was formed in response to a lumber yard fire. Deciding an organized fire company was very much needed, a group of citizens raised funds to purchase a fire truck. Since its beginnings, the company has grown immensely and, in 1998, it constructed a new firehouse, which is the firehouse that is used today.
The fire company serves the community of Belford, in a several mile radius from the station. It has a variety of vehicles to help fight fires, including Engine 132 & Engine 131 and Brush Truck 130 (for extinguishing brush fires).
