MacLeod-Rice House at Croydon Hall
900 Leonardville Rd, Leonardo, NJ 07737

This 18th century house located at Croydon Hall in Leonardo is used by Middletown Township.

It is alsoMore the home of the Middletown Historical Society and the township’s substance abuse counseling program.

According to the township, the house was owned by Donald W. Macleod, a wealthy linens importer; then Melvin Rice, who was active in local and state education. Woodrow Wilson, a good friend of Rice’s, was a frequent visitor.

Dr. John M. Carr, who bought the property in the 1940s, used the house as classroom space for Croydon Hall Academy, a boy’s boarding school.

After the school closed in 1975, the township bought the property.

In 2012, Trinity Hall all-girls High School took a lease on the site for a Fall, 2013 opening.
