High School Students Subjected to a 'Rude Awakening'

Through June 7, the community tries to impress on kids approaching the prom season the perils of unsafe driving.

This month in Middletown, a huge annual effort is underway at the high schools to impress on youth the serious consequences of a single bad decision.  The privately-funded "Rude Awakening" program is timed to be presented days before the prom season at the township's two public high schools, Christian Brothers Academy, Mater Dei and the county High Tech High School on the Brookdale campus.  "We try to express the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, and give the kids a different choice to make," said Sgt. Port Monmouth Man Arrested on Drug and Gun Charges; Held on $1 Million Bail

The 38-year old man, who lives near Port Monmouth Elementary, is facing a dozen serious charges.

A joint investigation by detectives in the Middletown Police Dept. and Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office resulted in the arrest of a 38-year old Port Monmouth man on Thursday on 12 charges related to alleged drug dealing and gun possession.  Sean P. McArdle of Vermont Avenue, who resides near Port Monmouth Elementary School, is being held at the Monmouth County jail on $1,023,000 bail set by Judge Dennis R. O'Brien.  Police said they discovered more McArdle was in possession of over 25 lbs of marijuana, and 5 lbs of hashish, as well as baggies, scales and other paraphernalia that indicate drug dealing.  McArdle also stands accused of committing, attempting to commit or conspiring to commit drug distribution while in possession of a Sturm…

Police: Woman Sold Heroin to Undercover Cop -- 3 Times

A MIddletown woman was indicted by a grand jury on 10 charges related to heroin possession and distribution.

A Middletown woman will stand trial she allegedly sold heroin to an undercover police officer on three occasions.  Sophia Fong, 41, of Route 35 in the Fairview section is facing 10 charges related to heroin possession and dealing. According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Wong conspired with Charles L. Davis of First Avenue in Asbury Park to sell the illegal drug. They are alleged to have sold heroin the agency's undercover police detectives on November 9 in Neptune City, November 18 in Middletown, and January 10 in Neptune City.  The grand jury's decision to indict is a formalization of charges, not a conviction.

Police: Drugs, Brass Knuckles and Nail-Studded Baseball Bat Seized in Belford

A search warrant leads to the arrests of four members of the same Belford family, on various charges.

After a monthlong investigation, investigators with the Middletown Police executed a search warrant on a Campbell Avenue home in Belford on Tuesday, and arrested four members of the Murphy family on various charges.   Taken into custody were Conor Murphy, 21 on drugs and illegal weapons charges and Daniel Murphy, 22, on drug possesion and burglary charges.  Daniel Murphy, 61 and Brenda Murphy, 58, were arrested on Contempt of Court charges.  The Feb. 5 arrests were made by the Middletown NJ Police Detective Bureau and Quality of Life Unit and was the result of work by Det. Three Middletown Residents Facing Heroin Charges

Two 19-year olds and one 20-year old are accused of drug offenses.

Updated with details from the Middletown Township Police Dept. on Jan. 21, 2013. Three young adults from Middletown are facing indictable charges of possessing and dealing heroin, along with other related offenses. Brianna Geerlof, 19 and Joshua Floyd, 19, both of Center Avenue in Belford; and Nicholas J. Muscenti, 20, of Hamilton Ave. in Leonardo were arrested by Middletown Police on Jan. 17.   Police executing a search warrant said they found 43 bags of heroin at Geerlof and Floyd's Belford home on the day of the arrest. Police Arrest Suspected Heroin Dealer in River Plaza Section of Middletown

The 24-year old Middletown resident is now in the county jail.

Middletown Police have arrested an alleged heroin dealer in the River Plaza section of Middletown and charged him with several offenses. A search warrant was executed at the home of Bartlett Lentini, age 24, of Carpenter Street by the Middletown Police Detective Bureau and Quality of Life Unit on Friday. Lentini was arrested and charged with: He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ on $70,000 bail set by Judge Thomas Scully of the Monmouth County Superior Court. Keyport Man Sentenced to State Prison for Drug Distribution

Investigators say he was illegally distributing painkillers in Hudson County and conspiring with pharmacy owners to bill the Medicaid program.

A Keyport man was sentenced today to state prison for illegally distributing painkillers in Hudson County and conspiring with pharmacy owners to bill Medicaid for the painkillers, according to Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa. The painkillers were obtained using fraudulent prescriptions. Jack Kennedy, 30, of Keyport, was sentenced under a plea agreement to three years in state prison, according to the Office of the Attorney General. Kennedy pleaded guilty on March 16, 2010 to an accusation charging him with second degree conspiracy to commit health care claims fraud, second degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, and third degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school property before …
