Holiday Fire Safety Tips

The Monmouth County Fire Marshal is offering these tips to keep your home safe from fire during the holidays.

The unfortunate fire that destroyed a family’s home in Little Silver last year is a reminder that everyone should be careful with candles, holiday lights and Christmas trees, according to Monmouth County Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III. “By keeping in mind some fire safety basics, residents can greatly reduce their chances of becoming a holiday fire statistic,” Stryker said. “The top two things to remember are to exercise care and caution if you are using candles and make sure that you keep your Christmas tree watered.” Stryker recommends that residents follow the holiday safety recommendations put forth by the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). Recipe: Swedish Pancakes Perfect for Christmas Morning

No need for maple syrup with these light and sweet morning meal.

The month of December is a busy one. Take some quality time with your family on Christmas morning and try a new recipe.  Swedish Pancakes Swedish pancakes, similar to a crepe, are much lighter than traditional pancakes. For your Christmas breakfast, serve them with lingonberry jam (available at IKEA or specialty food stores), bacon or sausage, and fresh fruit. Maybe you will start a new tradition in your family! Makes about 10 You can make the batter the night before and refrigerate it. Holiday Train Show Reception is Tonight

And you're invited to the annual Barron Arts Center train exhibition and holiday tree lighting ceremony.

The Barron Arts Center is kicking off its 22nd Annual Holiday Train Show today, November 30, with a reception at the gothic-style former library on Rahway Avenue. The reception will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm, and is open to all. The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on the Arts Center property will take place after the reception. The train show is a yearly event in Woodbridge, and it's so popular it draws crowds from far outside the township. The model trains are curated by Colonia resident Michael Gelesky.
