A pair of brothers, one a state record-holding former football player at Keyport High School, are facing various drug charges following a two-month investigation by the Narcotics and Gang Investigation Section of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office into their alleged sale of cocaine and heroin from the Bayshore region down to Long Branch, Asbury Park and Neptune, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. Kareem Gary, 32, of Elizabeth and Herman Rozier, 46, of Linden were indicted on Thursday in Monmouth County Court.
A Monmouth County grand jury indicted Kareem Gary, 32, of Elizabeth and Herman Rozier, 46, of Linden on Dec. 13 on seven charges stemming from the alleged burglary of businesses in Matawan, Aberdeen and Red Bank. The investigation began in Matawan after the July burglary of Wine Nation, where the front glass window was shattered and cash and cigarettes were stolen. As a result of the Wine Nation burglary investigation, Matawan Det. Joseph Lovallo and Det. Steve Sakowski were able to identify one of the suspects and tracked his whereabouts for ten days, Lt. Police say a Cliffwood Beach man removed copper wire from the Wilson Avenue substation during the power outages following Sandy.
A Cliffwood Beach man was arrested Monday on charges that he stole copper wire from the JCP&L substation on Wilson Avenue in Matawan on four separate occasions. Two of the alleged incidents occurred during the power outages following Sandy. Police say that John Wesp, 30, of Raritan Boulevard, entered the substation on Oct. 16, Oct. 25., Nov. 2 and Nov. 4 by cutting a hole in the fence surrounding the property. He allegedly removed over sixty copper stabilizing wires that help ground the electrical poles at the substation, Lt. Ben Smith explained. Each section is estimated to be about eight feet long. According to Smith, JCP&L estimated that about $80,000 worth of damage was done to the substation. After the two October incidents, Det. …

Bobbing in Lake Lefferts a short way from the dock off of Ravine Drive, is a member of the Matawan Borough Fire Department waiting to be rescued by fellow emergency responders during a water rescue drill on Sept. 23. Two firefighters climb into the department's new red Zodiac, designated as Marine-29-1, and launch into the lake, navigating four buoys on their way to their comrade, who is playing the role of the victim. As they approach, they place the boat into neutral and float the final distance toward the victim. Then the rescuers deploy a brightly colored net, wrap it under and around the victim, and hoist her onto the boat.
