Need Water? Go To Middletown HS North

Motorists can drive up to tent and an NJ American Water employee will put a case in the car.

Update: The boil water advisory was lifted Monday night for the towns still affected. Water will not be distributed after July 2. -- Patch A steady stream of people living under an inconvenient "boil water" advisory in Middletown, Holmdel, Aberdeen and Highlands came to collect drinking water at Middletown High School North parking lot on Tindall Road Monday.  There was plenty of water to go around, said Middletown Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Charles W. Rogers III. Four tractor trailers filled with pallets of water purchased by New Jersey American Water were on site, with more coming in.  "Everything is flowing rather smoothly, everyone is cooperating," said Rogers. An early morning motor vehicle accident involving a police …

Immersed in a 'Culturefest' at HS North

The event, designed to give students a hands-on understanding of different cultures, is Thursday night.

It’s a chance for students to immerse themselves in another culture and better understand diversity. That’s what Middletown High School North Social Justice Advisor John Kerrigan had to say about the school’s upcoming Culturefest. The event, which he says, “allows the students to better understand one another and become more prepared to work with people from various backgrounds,” was borne out of Kerrigan’s experience as a student at Raritan High School, Hazlet. “I attended Raritan High School and belonged to a small group called SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions),” Kerrigan said. “Our group branched out in 2002 and also focused on cultures and diversity. During that year, we organized a Diversity Dinner, where we each brought …

M'town Graduation 2012 Venue Change

High school and middle school graduation dates and places announced

On the subject of graduations in the Middletown school district this year, a little more change is in the wings. After many years of consistency in venues, the locations for both high and middle school commencement ceremonies were switched last year. And, this year, the place for middle school graduations will change once again. For the first time, the students of Thompson, Thorne and Bayshore middle schools will graduate at different times (yet to be determined) on June 15 at Middletown High School South. The High School South venue was the original place plan for last year’s middle school graduations, but then-Interim Superintendent Thomas Pagano had decided that Brookdale Commumity College was a better place for the 2011 ceremonies. …

I agree with you Bob. The students should graduate on their respective football fields. As for the middle schools I am not surprised that the town would choose South as the venue even though the majority of the students are in lion country!   more ›

Comedy Tonight: 'Forum' at HS North

The high school's spring musical features a cast of 31

It’s comedy, music and a good kind of mayhem that are expected to ensue at Middletown High School North tonight when the curtain goes up at 7 pm. on the school’s production of the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The show, which will run through Saturday at North’s Tindall Road theater, is a classic slapstick farce with the book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Inspired by the works of Plautus, an ancient Roman playwright, the musical kick-back in time takes the audience on the comical journey of a slave named Pseudolus and his antics in trying to win the freedom and favor of his master by helping him get the girl of his dreams. The original Tony Award-winning Broadway show, known …

Tentative 2012-13 M'town Schools Budget Falls Within 2 Percent State Cap

Budget means average schools tax hike of $46 a year for average taxpayer

Middletown Superintendent of Schools William George is spreading what he calls some good budget news for both the district and taxpayers. The tentative 2012-13 $149.7 million spending plan, with a tax levy of $125 million, has been approved. It’s well within the state-mandated 2 percent cap and state aid is up by $851,011 from last year, with this year’s figure at $17,484,212, up from last year’s $16,633,190. The increase in the tax levy represents a .98 percent tax levy hike, or roughly $1.3 million below the 2 percent state cap. The general operating budget is staying almost exactly level from last year’s $145.7 million and last year’s tax levy of $123.8 million, or a 2.6 percent increase from last year, what George says is the lowest …

HS North Sends Special Needs Students from School to Work

CVR trains and employs disabled residents in Monmouth and Ocean counties while providing services for area businesses.

A weak economy can make any work-a-day job easier to take, but none could be happier than the crew who report to CVR on Industrial Way in Eatontown. It's definitely not the building that inspires them. Inside the warehouse, conference rooms and classrooms have a worn, non-profit feel. Rooms are cramped and the lighting is office building unflattering. And yet, everyone here is smiling. Really, everyone. At an anger management group session, the participants wave enthusiastically and shout hello when introduced to a reporter. And for Patch's benefit the group leader asks a woman with headphones around her neck, "What do you do when you're angry?" "I listen to music or walk away," she says, adding with a smile, "I love music."  But if …

Athlete of the Week: HS North's Emily Lavin

Lavin tapped for leading Lions in wins

Lavin led her Lions to their first win of the season in the team’s opener against Manalapan. The 72-59 victory came thanks to a double-double from Lavin in which she scored 15 points while also grabbing a game-high 19 rebounds. The senior received help from teammates Mia Ehling and Maureen Ciccosante, each of whom scored 12 points, respectively. Since the season-opening win, Middletown North has lost its only game, falling to Monmouth Regional 36-33. In that game, the Falcons held Lavin to a mere seven points, but she still grabbed four rebounds, a team high.
