Police Officer Charles J. Higgins received warm thanks from elected officials and the police department for a lifesaving achievement on Dec. 20.
On Dec. 20 around 8:20 p.m., Middletown Police Officer Charles J. Higgins responded to a First Aid call in North Middletown where he found a male in his 20s who had a pulse, but who was not breathing. Using his experience as a former EMT and as a police officer, Higgins performed rescue breathing for the patient with his bag-valve mask until the First AId took over patient care. He is credited with saving the young man's life. On Tuesday night, he was publicly thanked and given the Middletown Township Committee's Lifesaving Award. Five Middletown officers and one patrolman received their badges during the August 20 Township Committee meeting.
Five military recruits were sworn in as are the newest addition to the Middletown Police Department during the August 20 Township Committee meeting. “We are very fortunate and blessed to have such a great police department and tonight, we welcome new additions to our officiary police department here of Middletown,” said Mayor Anthony P. Fiore. Patrol Officer Thomas Hughes, 27, is a Middletown resident and a volunteer firefighter. He graduated from Marine Academy of Science and Technology. The $310,152 approved for the purchase of ten new police vehicles during Monday’s Township Committee was a “typo” on the resolution. The corrected amount for the ten vehicles is $258,272, said officials on Tuesday.
The $310,152 approved for the purchase of ten new police vehicles during Monday’s Township Committee was a “typo” on a township resolution. The ten vehicles will cost $258,272, about $50,000 less than what is listed on the approved resolution. Township Administrator Anthony P. Mercantante said the resolution will most likely be corrected, although it technically does have to be because the resolution was passed for more than the amount needed to approved to purchase the vehicles. “Because the approval is for more, rather than less, than what would be spent the resolution is okay and only the approved vehicle amount [for $258,272, the cost of the 10 vehicles] would be used,” said Middletown Police Chief Robert Oches. The reports below are reprinted unedited from the release prepared by Detective Lieutenant Stephen Dollinger. The information concerning the above arrests was obtained directly from the Middletown Township Police Department's records. While all suspects have been arrested and charged with the named offenses, convictions depend on the outcome of court appearances. All are presumed innocent until proven guilty in that court of law.

A Lawrence Harbor woman faces three charges stemming from a home burglary on Devonshire Court.
Middletown Township Police arrested and charged a Lawrence Harbor on conspiracy, unlawfully entering a home, and theft, after she allegedly assisted in the burglary of a Middletown home. Claudette Masonius, 40, of Harding Road in Lawrence Harbor, was arrested after she allegedly conspired with Michael Masonius to commit the burglary of a home on Devonshire Court in Middletown. According to the complaint warrant, Claudette allegedly entered the home through a front bathroom window. While inside, Claudette allegedly took jewelry and a 9MM Ruger Pistol. All items taken from the home were believed to valued near $1,000. Claudette has been remanded to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $110,000 bail.

The following information comes from a press release issued by Middletown Detective Lieutenant Stephen Dollinger of the Middletown Township Police. On Monday, June 18 the Middletown Police Detective Bureau and Quality of Life Unit and the New Jersey State Police Crime Suppression Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Danemar Drive in Middletown, which resulted in the arrest of two subjects for various narcotics violations.
