What Do You Know About The Throckmorton-Lippit-Taylor Burying Ground?

Read an interesting history about this piece of old Middletown.

The Throckmorton-Lippit-Taylor Burying Ground is a quiet space located on Penelope Lane, located in the Middletown Village Historic District. It may perhaps become more noticeable to people, now that the Middletown Planning Board office recently moved into a converted structure next door.   A detailed history about the burial ground, with a map can be found on the township website.  Middletown is one of the oldest settlements in New Jersey, and this is the oldest recorded family burying ground in Middletown. The men, women, and children interred here represent some of the earliest settlers of the town, and their lives reflect those who founded our country. Trinity Hall To Open in Middletown in September

A new all-girls high school is moving into Middletown's stately Croydon Hall campus.

Trinity Hall, a newly established all girls high school in the Catholic tradition, announced Friday afternoon it will welcome its first freshman class in September 2013 at a temporary location in Middletown. The site will be a low brick building on the Croydon Hall campus at 900 Leonardville Road in Leonardo, currently home to the Middletown Parks & Recreation Department. It is adjacent to the white iconic mansion on a rolling campus of athletic fields. Croydon Hall was once the home of a boys boarding school. 'Middletown 350' Logo Contest Deadline Is Dec. 17

What would you design for the township's 350th anniversary logo?

Middletown Township's 350th birthday is approaching in 2014, and a committee of citizens is looking to give the town a big party. But first, they want to nail down a great logo to use in the promotion.  A contest is being held choose the best design by a Middletown resident. An application can be downloaded from the township website. Entries are due December 17 at Town Hall.   The logo must include the celebration name Middletown 350, and entries can be hand-drawn, painted or computer generated.  What do you think the logo express? Brainstorm your ideas in the comments, and perhaps you will spark some inspiration.  Submission information is on the form.

Home Depot Trucks Arrive At Croydon Hall With Donations Of Cleaning Supplies

The Lt. Governor helped unload the trucks full of items that will help Hurricane Sandy victims and volunteers clean up.

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno appeared at Croydon Hall in Middletown Tuesday, to bring attention a $1 million donation by Home Depot Foundation.  Trucks full of donated supplies pulled up to the township storm center in Leonardo, and Guadagno unloaded rakes, shovels, work gloves, trash bags and cleaning supplies.  "For families recovering from and cleaning-up after Hurricane Sandy's devastation, these supplies are important to help regain some sense of normalcy," said Lt. Governor Guadagno in a statement. "It's easy for homeowners and residents to feel overwhelmed by the task before us, but Home Depot's donation will hopefully make the burden of restoring our homes and communities just a little lighter."  Home Depot's donation is spread …

Shelter at Croydon Center and other assistance for those whose lives have been disrupted by Hurricane Sandy.

The following messages were posted on the Township website on Nov. 1, 2012.  Per JCP&L about 24 percent -- that’s  8,150 customers of township has been restored, 25,500 customer still remain without power . For anyone needing shelter, the Croydon Center Reception Center and Shelter at 900 Leonardville Road is now open and available. Please bring pillows, blankets, personal items such as medications.  Unfortunately, absolutely no pets can be accommodated. Monmouth County residents and small businesses are now eligible to apply for different types offederal assistance, including temporary housing, repair, replacement or other needs such as Disaster Unemployment Assistance, and Small Business Administration disaster loans. Calls were placed to local gas stations and grocery stores, and only Mike's Dariy & Deli was open.

Looking for a place to get some food or supplies? Mike's Dairy & Deli might be your best bet today. Patch placed calls to several grocery stores and gas stations in the Middletown Patch directory, and Mike's Dairy, on First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands is open for business, an employee said Thursday afternoon. The convenience store has "almost everything right now" in stock and is running on a generator, an employee told Patch. They plan to be open until 6 p.m. Calls to ShopRite of Middletown, Welsh Farms Food Stores, Bray Avenue Deli & Grocery and Harmony Natural Foods all went unanswered or resulted in a busy signal. On the Auction Block: 18 King's Highway, Middletown

The very old, very large building is located across from Middletown Township offices.

  An old, large building formerly used as a daycare for small children, located across the street from the Town Hall complex, will be put on the auction block on November 16.  The 7,800-square foot building dates back to 1820 and is located at 18 King's Highway.  According to Monmouth County property records, in 2012 the land and buildings were assessed at $1 million and taxes were $21,471. It was recently marketed for $850,000, but did not find a buyer.  It was most recently known as Red Oak Village School. It has also operated as Little Village Day Care Center. County Health Department to Offer Flu Shots Wednesday in Atlantic Highlands

The Monmouth County Health Department will offer flu shots to county residents at 22 different locations now through late October.

The Monmouth County Health Department is offering flu shots Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Atlantic Highlands Senior Center as part of the county's flu-shot clinics being run through late October. “Generally speaking, anyone over six months of age can receive the seasonal inactivated influenza vaccine,” said Freeholder Director John P. Curley, liaison to the Health Department. “We strongly urge anyone at risk of flu-related complications to get the seasonal vaccine from the county Health Department or your health care provider.” At the clinics, Monmouth County residents will pay $25 for the seasonal influenza vaccine.
