SHARE PHOTOS: March Nor'easter Brings Snow to Bayshore

What did you awake to this morning? Send in your photos of the snow before it turns to rain.

Bayshore residents awoke to ice-tipped trees Friday morning after the snow was a no-show Thursday.  The National Weather Service cautions drivers that snowfall may impact visability and less-traveled streets may be icy. The snow is expected to continue falling throughout the morning with minimal additionaly accumulation before it turns to rain this afternoon. Despite today's wintry weather, Saturday is still forecast to be sunny with a high near 51.  Send us your photos of the snow by clicking "Upload Photos and Videos" and we'll feature them on Patch.

Middletown Mayor: Nor'easter May Cause Flooding at 3:30 am High Tide

No evacuation orders will be issued, said Scharfenberger Wednesday afternoon

Middletown's Mayor Gerry Scharfenberger says the township's biggest concern heading into Wednesday night's nor'easter -- after the welfare of its residents --will be the potential for moderate to severe flooding in the middle of the night.  "The tide we are really concerned with is at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, when the bulk of the rain is supposed to hit," said the mayor in an interview Wednesday afternoon. Heavy rainfall may swell storm drains, creeks, and other waterways the mayor said. "We're going to be monitoring it."  Members of the public works and police department will be keeping an eye on the situation on tours in flood-prone areas in low-lying places such as North Middletown, Port Monmouth, Belford and Leonardo.  In preparation for …

NWS Update: Flooding Expected Along With High Tides

Recent warnings from the National Weather Service indicate high tides and potential for flooding.

The National Weather Service is predicting that a nor'easter impacting New Jersey could cause minor to moderate flooding along coastal areas with the possibility of dune breaches and property damage to already vulnerable structures. According to a recent update from the NWS, the winter storm, which will bring heavy sustained winds and wind gusts and rain and snow through Thursday and into early Friday morning, will close roads, cause beach erosion, and present a particularly significant threat to beaches and shore communities already compromised following Hurricane Sandy.  The storm's target areas include much of the coast, including Eastern Monmouth County, Ocean County, Coastal Ocean County, Coastal Atlantic County, Middlesex County, as …

Middletown Orders Mandatory Evacuation of Flood Prone Areas Ahead of Nor'easter

Officials urge residents to leave by Wednesday at 3 p.m., "at the latest."

The following announcement from Middletown Township Office of Emergency Management was released around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service reports that a Nor’easter is expected to impact our area on Wednesday, November 7th. Due to compromised flood control features such as dunes, Middletown Township has issued a mandatory evacuation order from Keansburg to Atlantic Highlands from Route 36 to the bay. We urge that you leave by 3:00 pm on Wednesday at the latest. High winds will likely cause a problem with flying debris and downed wires; as a result power loss could occur again township wide.

Nor'easter Forecast Turning Grim

National Weather Service now calls storm 'significant.'

Hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans still reeling without power as temperatures took a decidedly colder turn the last two nights now face the prospect of a major Nor'easter striking the state Wednesday into Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the tri-state area, and it's predictions have grown more dire in recent days. "A significant coastal storm will likely impact the tri-state region Wednesday and Thursday," the service said Monday. "Confidence continues to increase that strong, gusty winds ... rain/wintry precipitation ... coastal flooding and additional beach erosion will result from this system." The storm is set to strike a little more than a week after Sandy, and the prediction comes…

Nor'easter Could Strike This Week

Storm-ravaged NJ could see snow/wind as gas shortage, widespread outages continue

A Nor'easter could sock Sandy-battered New Jersey in the middle of next week, the National Weather Service is predicting. "This storm has the potential to bring strong, gusty winds ... rain/wintry precipitation .. and coastal flooding to the tri-state area," the NWS said. The possible storm, coupled with temperatures in the 30s the next few nights, underscores the urgency to restore power to weary residents. The NWS, however, says the storm is not a sure bet, despite the service issuing a hazardous weather outlook. "There is still uncertainty to the exact track this storm will take," it reported.
