Three Retired Middletown Schools Superintendents Make $100K Club Cut

The "club," named by New Jersey Watchdog, includes retired government employees earning a pension of $100K and more

There’s something called the “$100K Club” and three former Middletown schools administrators are unwitting members: retired superintendents Dennis Jackson, Karen Bilbao and interim Thomas Pagano. Those who qualify for this “club” are former government employees who are on a list of those who have earned $100,000 or more in pensions. The list was culled from a state Department of Treasury database. It was dubbed the “100K Club” by New Jersey Watchdog, identifying “an elite corps of retired public employees that's growing bigger, younger and richer at the expense of the New Jersey retirement system,” an investigative report by the group’s head, Mark Lagerkvist, said. I know Mr.Jackson personally. He was the superintendent during my Middletown public education. As a taxpayer, I have no qualms about paying him well for his retirement. The quality of my education is a testament to how well the public school system works. Middletown is an amazing township and it would not remain as such without the dedication of such people.   more ›

Deciding Vote: Pension and Health Care Reform Bill Heads to Assembly

Opponents of the reforms, which were approved by the Senate on Monday, have called the legislation an attack on the middle class.

Proposed legislation to increase contributions by public employees to their health care and pension costs is expected to be approved by the state Assembly today, clearing its final hurdle before heading to Gov. Chris Christie to be signed into law. The state Senate adopted the pension and health care reform bill on Monday by a margin of 24-15, with 16 Republican Senators and eight Democrats voting in favor of bill S-2937. The bill would require teachers, state and local government workers to pay an additional 1 percent of their salaries toward their pensions as of July 1, and an additional 1 percent phased in over the next seven years for a total of 7.5 percent. Police and firefighters would pay an additional 1.5 percent of their salaries …

In the past workers had the guts to fight for every benefit they ever got. No one ever just 'Gave them" anything. The State workers are getting what they deserve for not having the backbone for a fight. All they all have to do is stay home and shut the State down.
