Police: Details on Route 36 Accident

Crash sent two to hospital and closed a portion of Route 36

A morning Middletown accident on Route 36 that resulted in a scramble of two vehicles on the highway median and sent two to the hospital showed “no indication of alcohol or drug use being factors,” Middletown Police Lt. John Maguire said. The accident took place at about 9 a.m., between Valley and Thousand Oaks drives, when a Ford pick-up truck, driven by Mark J. Card, 32, of Keyport, veered off the stretch of highway and struck two flatbed trailers — one a Garden State Trucking vehicle and the other a United Crane Rentals truck — loaded with construction materials that were parked on the side of the highway waiting to enter a construction site, Maguire added. Coffee's On: Beans and Brew to Soothe

Jersey Shore Coffee Roasters, in the Leonardo section of Middletown, is a tucked-away, local bean treasure trove.

Impending DOT Road Improvements: M'town Mayor Grateful, Wary

Fiore happy about project; hopes resurfacing won't clog summer traffic arteries

A major roadway resurfacing project, sponsored by the state Department of Transportation (DOT), will begin next week to improve two sections of Route 36 in Monmouth County, including spans in and through Middletown. One section of the work will be in the Borough of Sea Bright, while the other area of the highway to be resurfaced covers the townships of Hazlet and Middletown and the boroughs of Keansburg and Union Beach. Middletown Mayor Tony Fiore is happy with the notion of the project in the township, yet wary of the traffic tie-ups and detriments implied with a project such as this extending through the summer months.  "I think the resurfacing project will be great for the township," he said. "Any time there's a road resurfacing project…
