The Township Committee member has excused himself, in response to concerns that some comments he made that could potentially be interpreted as prejudicial.
Planning board member Kevin Settembrino has recused himself from the Taylor Lane housing development proposal currently before the Planning Board, according to board attorney James Gorman. Settembrino, who is also a member of the township's governing body, will be replaced by one of two alternates who have attended the meetings that have been going on for months. His decision to step away from the American Properties in Middletown application, which proposes 245 housing units on an undeveloped tract, came after comments he made during an April 17 meeting, which focused on the potential reconfiguration of Taylor Lane as a one-way road in part. The Middletown Township Planning Board heard more testimony from the developer who is eyeing the wooded Taylor Lane tract in Middletown, but took no action on the application at its meeting Wednesday. Testimony will continue at the Feb. meeting. American Properties at Middletown, LLC is seeking preliminary and final site major subdivision, and preliminary & final major site plan approval to construct 196 townhomes and 49 affordable units, along with a 3,600 foot clubhouse and a pool in the area across from Target on Route 35. Two meetings of public interest are being held Wednesday, Jan. 17, at roughly the same time. The Middletown Township Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. at the main library for their Reorganization and to conduct business. Talk of closing the Navesink, Lincroft and Bayshore branch libraries is in the air, residents with petitions to keep the libraries open, or make other comments, plan to be present. A letter from Library Director Susan Oneal says the branches could be closed by Jan. 25. Meeting starts at 7 pm at the library, 55 New Monmouth Road. American Properties at Middletown of Iselin will present their project "Heritage at Middletown."
A public hearing is scheduled tonight for a proposed housing project to be situated on 31 acres adjacent to Route 35 South, on both sides of Taylor Lane in Middletown. A portion of the heavily wooded parcel is zoned for multi-family housing. Most of the land is in Middletown, and some of it is in Holmdel Township. The property is owned by Harry Swartz, M.D. and Renee Swartz of Rumson and Joseph Becker, with a postal address in New York. American Properties at Middletown is proposing a housing development for wooded land at Route 35 South and Taylor Lane in Middletown, near the Holmdel border. According to a public notice published on Nov. 21 in the Asbury Park Press, the developer is seeking approval for 245 multifamily units on approximately 31 acres.
