The Christmas tree in front of county offices in Freehold Borough has been lit.
While the weather on Tuesday did not feel very Christmas like, Freehold Borough got into the holiday spirit with the lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Hall of Records. Residents gathered outside the Hall of Records along with the Rock N Roll Chorus, radio personalities from the Breeze-FM and local elected officials to witness the town Christmas tree light up. The tree, decorated by Freehold Girl Scout Troop 2780 had a hurricane relief theme this year along with their traditional “green” ornaments. “There are a total of 300 ornaments on the tree this year,” said a Girl Scout Troop 2780 spokesperson. “The ornaments are all made from recycled materials and have a Hurricane Sandy theme to them. Singing, dancing acts made for a full evening of holiday fun
It wasn't just a tree lighting. No, in Middletown there was much more happening on Sunday night at the Middletown Arts Center. While Santa took visitors downstairs, people perused a winter-themed art show in the gallery upstairs. And in the theater, there was a holiday talent showcase to ring in the start of the season in the township. Youth of all ages sang and danced their way into an attentive audience's heart, featuring soloists, the Twinbrook Carolers, The MACettes and the Winter Wonderland Performers. A night of traditional community holiday cheer was enjoyed by a large crowd.
Middletown's annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Festival was filled with community fun and activity Sunday night. After the tree was ceremoniously lit on the law outside the Middletown Arts Center (MAC), it was onto more rooms full of merriment inside. There was a talent show, an arts and crafts session, Doodle Dude (Art Kaney) fun in the decked halls, an ongoing winter art show, snacks and, of course, Santa. A good holiday time was had by all.
