Trinity Hall Girls HS Names Ken Santos as Athletic Director

Santos, a coach at RBC and teacher in Little Silver, was introduced Thursday.

In its sprint to throw open the doors to the region's first all-girls High School next fall, Trinity Hall announced Thursday it has chosen Ken Santos as its athletic director.  Santos, the girl's varsity soccer coach at Red Bank Catholic and a teacher in Little Silver Schools, was introduced to about 80 people at an information session at Oak Hill Academy in Lincroft Thursday night.  "We will have high expectations," said Santos, 42, of Fair Haven, in describing the school's mission to produce confident, competitive women through involvement in an athletic program that instills hard work, commitment and respect.  The inaugural class at Trinity Hall is expected to number about 50 students, but enrollment is projected to grow to 100 in each …

Trinity Hall Girls HS Names Head of School, Assistant Head of School

The all-girls school opening in Middletown next fall is also announcing up to $500,000 in scholarship grants for the founding class.

Trinity Hall, the newly established all-girls high school starting up in Middletown's Croydon Hall campus this fall, has named Mary Mahon Sciarrillo as Head of School, and James Palmieri as Assistant Head of School.  Both are currently employed at all-girls schools in New Jersey. Sciarrillo is the Upper School principal at the Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child in Summit and holds graduate degrees in nursing and educational leadership. She is also an alumna of Red Bank Catholic. Palmieri is the director of strategic initiatives at Kent Place School and near completion of his doctorate degree in education at Rutgers. His thesis just happens to be about the new interest in independent girls' schools. “We will open in September 2013 with a …

My mother and I both attended and graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ, an all-girls public school and in my opinion it was great -- no boy/girl distractions. Many of my classmates went on to hold prestigious positions that I don't think would have been possible in a co-ed environment. . .   more ›

Trinity Hall To Open in Middletown in September

A new all-girls high school is moving into Middletown's stately Croydon Hall campus.

Trinity Hall, a newly established all girls high school in the Catholic tradition, announced Friday afternoon it will welcome its first freshman class in September 2013 at a temporary location in Middletown. The site will be a low brick building on the Croydon Hall campus at 900 Leonardville Road in Leonardo, currently home to the Middletown Parks & Recreation Department. It is adjacent to the white iconic mansion on a rolling campus of athletic fields. Croydon Hall was once the home of a boys boarding school. In an email to school supporters, Trinity Hall founders Mairead and Sean Clifford, and Victoria and Justin Gmelich, of Rumson, said Croydon Hall has the academic building they need with "a sufficient number of classrooms and offices…

Trinity Hall All-Girls School Is Considering Middletown Site

Founders say they are searching for temporary and permanent spaces -- but CBA won't be Trinity's new home.

At its first public event in Lincroft, the founders of the all-girls school Trinity Hall announced they are engaged in discussions with Middletown officials about potentially opening their school on a site within the township in fall 2013. The founders made the announcement before 150 people at an International Day of the Girl event held Thursday night at Christian Brothers Academy. The event served as a preview for the documentary called 10X10, which highlights the education of 10 girls in 10 developing countries, set to be released this spring.  Parents with daughters ranging in age from preschool through eighth grade filled about half of the CBA theater. Trinity Hall supporters working the event handed out posters that read "Girls + …

POLL: Do Same-Sex Schools Appeal to You?

Monmouth County is getting a new all-girls school in 2013.

Rumson moms Victoria Gmelich and Mairead Clifford have announced that in September of 2013 they will be opening the first all-girls high school in this area — Trinity Hall. Though the school will not be a parochial one, religious leaders will serve on its board and its mission will be faith-based, encouraging girls to “focus on their education, become leaders and grow in faith,” as they told Patch's Shannon Winning in an interview on Monday. While conceding that the all-girls high schooling option is not one that everyone prefers, they also said that they feel strongly that the option should exist. Both hail from out-of-the-area same-sex religious schools, as do their husbands. Wanting to transplant what they say were their overwhelmingly …

Trinity Hall: All Girls High School Could Be at Fort Monmouth in 2013

Founders are looking at two potential sites for the school, a building at Fort Monmouth and land in Holmdel.

You may have heard a rumor going around that some folks are planning to open an all-girls high school here in Monmouth County. Well, Rumson residents Victoria Gmelich and Mairead Clifford want you to know, it's no rumor. "We are opening September 2013. We are doing this," Gmelich said Monday when Patch caught up with her and Clifford. With $5 million of seed money already raised, the pair of moms is poised to open the kind of school they remember fondly from their youth; one where girls are encouraged to focus on their education, become leaders and grow in faith. The school will not be a Catholic school, like Red Bank Catholic, but will instead be in the Catholic tradition, which will include brothers and nuns on a board. The women are …

I went to an all girls high school in NY, it would never send my daughter! Between the emotional drama and competitiveness i felt so small. It was vicious! When i got to college i didnt know how to interact with the sea of guys in my classes. I was very intimidated and it took awhile for me to be able to open up. I think kids need to interact together on an equal playing field so they learn how …   more ›
