If You See A Donkey On King's Highway...

It must be Palm Sunday in Middletown, when local donkeys take part in a religious procession at two churches.

Bill Potter of Middletown keeps five miniature donkeys on his farm on Red Hill Road in Holmdel. The donkeys live the good life, hanging out with the sheep and goats, munching on grass and hay, letting out the occasional hee-haw.  But come the Christian holidays they are all business. At Christmastime, Potter donkeys take up positions in Living Nativity scenes at St. John's Methodist Church in Keyport, All Saints Church in Navesink, and Dearborn Farms in Holmdel. And on Palm Sunday, which is on March 24, they hoof it to King's Highway in Middletown, where they play a role in the re-telling of Jesus's triumphant return to Jerusalem -- first on the front lawn of Christ Episcopal Church at 10 a.m., and then onto the Middletown Reformed Church …

[VIDEO] At St. Mark's In Keansburg, Staff Says They Are Moved By Something Bigger Than Sandy

The people behind St. Mark's describe the amazing way the small church was able to fulfill its mission to serve the community during a crisis. By the Episcopal News Service.

Mysterious Middletown Sightings Tour

This week, Patch takes you to an area of historic significance. Tell us what you know about it.

This week’s mysterious Middletown sighting is one of “grave” historical value. Sitting on a swath of land in the township's historic district, on Kings Highway, the Christ Episcopal Church’s burial grounds provide some interesting information about Middletown’s founding fathers, sisters, famous and infamous from way back in time. If you get some close-up views of what is etched in stone on the site, history will not only unfold, but you’ll see the interesting way in which people of centuries past were eulogized on tombstones. A very intriguing sign of the times. For instance, if you look closely at one of the stones, you’ll see only the first name of a woman, Sarah. Many of the deceased women were memorialized merely by their first names …

Youth Learn Lessons About Hunger and Homelessness at Christ Church

The effort is part of the outreach of World Vision, an organization devoted to confronting world hunger. The 30-Hour Famine program finds youth groups from churches across the country experiencing a day-and-…
