The following letter from the Middletown Schools Superintendent was posted to the district website around noon Monday, Dec. 17. Dear School Community, In the wake of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut this past Friday, I feel it is important to inform you of the steps taken by our school district to keep our students safe and mitigate theemotional impact of this horrific act. Our central office administration has been in constant communication with our building level principals to review our safety plans, procedures and protocols. Superintendent George says the schools are supporting the township's post Hurricane-Sandy recovery effort, and considering the safety of students in its decision-making about re-opening.
Schools Superintendent William O. George said Monday that although schools are closed, he and central administration has been working around the clock with township officials and parent organizations to assess and address the post-Hurricane Sandy crisis in Middletown school district. "Our offices are closed, but we are working," said George on Monday at noon. School teams have returned to practices. NJSIAA scheduled games will be played, but on a week's delay. "Trunk or treat" belated Halloween trick-or-treating for district children at area schools is being organized, likely for next Sunday afternoon. Board members approve candidates for the 2012-2013 educational staff.
The Middletown Board of Education approved seven new additions to the educational staff as well as the appointment of two student service supervisors during their Thursday night meeting. Stephanie DiBari was hired as a High School North mathematics teacher. DiBari will begin on Sept. 1 with annual salary of $64,875. Cara Muratore was hired as a mathematics teacher for Thompson Middle School. Muratore will begin her position on Sept. 1 at an annual salary of $52,070. Michele Foreback, Jessica L. Scherr and Erica M. Segal were hired as elementary school teachers. The grades these teachers will teach have yet to be decided. They will all start on Sept. 1 at an annual salary of $52,070. At the end of the school year the Middletown Board of Education recognized a number of students for distinguishing themselves academically, athletically or both. Mike Milhoulides, Geena Lucibello and Alexandra Pendergrast, all students at Middletown High School South, were recognized for their winning "Law Day" essays and artwork, commemorating the nation's commitment to the rule of law. County-wide solar energy plan is revealed with Middletown schools feasibility results.
Some light was shed on the prospects of bringing solar energy to six Middletown schools at last night’s Middletown Township Board of Education workshop meeting. A small audience of residents gathered to listen to a presentation given by Birdsall Engineering’s Jerry Genna about the Monmouth County Improvement Authority Renewable Energy Program solar initiative on tap for the schools. It’s an initiative township officials have been touting and are implementing. They have been encouraging the schools to jump on the solar bandwagon, seeing it as a win for cost effectiveness in light of ever-increasing energy costs and their strain on budgets.
