'Clerks' Quick Stop Sells 2 Separate $1M Lotto Tickets

Two lucky people scratched their way to million-dollar prizes in the Leonardo section of Middletown.

Cha-ching!

Two separate $1 million instant lottery tickets were purchased at Quick Stop in Leonardo during the month of July, according to Judith Drucker, the public relations manager for New Jersey Lottery.

"Both at the same store, both a million dollars. It's pretty remarkable," Drucker said.

One of the tickets was a Monopoly Millionaire instant scratch-off ticket that offers the player a 4 in 1.8 million chance at $1 million prize. The other ticket was a $1,000,000 Spectacular instant scratch-off ticket that offers the player a 16 in 13.5 million chance at a $1 million prize.

Rajinder Sharma, a manager at Quick Stop, said both customers who won come into the store often to buy lottery tickets.

“They are very nice people,” Sharma said, adding that he knows both winners personally.

This recent streak in lottery luck isn't the convenience store's only claim to fame. In the early 1990s, Quick Stop also served as the set for Clerks, an independent film written and directed by Middletown native Kevin Smith that centered on a day in the life of two clerks. The film performed well at Sundance Film Festival and even led to a sequel called Clerks II

Rumors have recently surfaced that Smith and the cast of Clerks will return to Quick Stop to shoot a third sequel, according to an April 2013 report on NJ.com

As for the filming of Clerks III, Sharma said it's too soon to tell.
